WILL OF JAMES INSLEY
DORCHESTER CO., MARYLAND
JANUARY 29 , 1754


In the Name of God Amen. I James Insley of Dorchester County being of a weak constitution of Body but of a sound and perfect mind and memory I do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner as followeth

Item I give to my eldest son Andrew Insley seventy five acres of Land part of a track called Rackkune Ridge the lower part where he did once dwell to him during his Life and then to Andrew Insley's two Daughters namely Susaner Insley and Rachal Insley and likewise give to these two girls Susaner Insley and Rachel Insley and likewise give to these two girls Susaner Insley and Rachel Insley part of a tract of land called Insleys Out Let lying on the Lower Side of a tract of land called Rackkune Ridge and likewise give to my son Andrew Insley five Shillings and no more of my Estate and this mentioned land I leave to him and heirs forever

Item I give to my son Francis two Shillings and no more of my Estate

Item I give to my son Vollentine Insley fifty acres of Land called Andrews Fortten lying upon the Rode Ridge upon the upper side of that land I gave James Todd land likewise ten acres of land called Hopper Labour and likewise give him whereon cloths one cow which the Easexoter pleases and likewise give him the lands to him and his heirs forever and five Shillings and no more of my Estate.

Item I give to my son Joseph Insley a parcel of land being part of Hamton and part of Farm and part of Andrews Forten beginning at the mouth of a Ditch runing South west up ?Acks pon to a Swamp called Goos Creek Swamp from thence running with the swamp to a track of land called William Insley's I give it to him and his heirs forever Lawfully begotten by his own Body and if he dies without heir Lawfully begotten by his own body it shall fall to Betty Willin's children and Roseaner Woolin's children to them and their heirs forever Lawfully begotten by their one bodys

Item I give to my son Jacob Insley all that part of land called Andrews Forten lying between Goos Creek Swamp and Bettys Lott as likewise give him all that Track of land called Priviledge to him and his heirs for forever Lawfully begotten by his ones body and if he dies without heirs Lawfully begotten by his one body it then falls to Rossaner Woolins children and Betty Willin's children to them and their heirs forever Lawfully begotten by their one Bodys.

Item I give to my Daughter Rachel Anderson part of a track of land called Insleys Out Lett lying upon the South west side of the ? track sixty two acres Beginning at a Bounded tree of track of land called Vale of Misery. I give to her and her heirs forever lawfully begotten by her own Body and if she dies without heir Lawfully begotten it shall fall to my Daughter Judah Insley to her and her heirs forever and likewise give to my Daughter Rachel Anderson a negro wench named Leucey she and her increase after my Death and no more of my Estate only five Shillings.

Item I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Wingate two shillings and ?? and no more of my Estate.

Item I give to my Loving Wife my Dwelling Plantation part of a track of land called Andrews forten and also part of a track of land called Hamton and also part of a track of land called Insleys Prevention and also part of a track called Townsend's and part of a track of land called Betty's Desire I give to her during her life ? and after her death or marrage to my two Daughters named Rosaner Woolen and Betty Willin to them and their heirs forever Lawfully begotten by their one bodies and also I give to my Loving Wife my Still and tub during her ? or widdowhood and after her death ?? to my two Daughters named Roseaner Woollen and Betty Willin to them and their heirs forever also I give my Loving wife one Riding Horse named Prince and her side saddle and bridle and likewise all my ? and likewise six head of sheep which she pleases to take I give her all her things as a Legacy besided her thirds and also a track of Land called the Horse Pasture during her life or Widdowhood and then to these two girls before mentioned, Roseaner Woollen and Betty Willin

Item I give to my Daughter Ales Todd five shillings and no more of my estate.

Item I give to my Daughter Betty Willin a negro girl named Fillis as a Legacy she and her increase forever and no more of my Estate only what is already given.

Item I give to my Daughter Roseaner Woollen a negro Boy named Andrew to her and her heirs forever as a Legacy and no more of my Estate only what is already given

Item I give to my two sons Andrew Insley and Joseph Insley part of a tract of Land called Rackkune Ridge and likewise part of tact of Land called Insley's Outlet I give to them for two years and no more the upper part where my son James Insley did live and the time of his years is out I give it to Andrew Insley's two Daughters Susaner Insley and Rachel Insley I give to them and their heirs forever and the residue of my Estate after my wife having her third my Will and pleasure is that it may be equally divided among my three children namely Joseph Insley, Jacob Insley and Judah Insley I give it them and their heirs forever and I do hereby ordain constitute and apoint my Loving wife to be my whole and sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby Dis?? and Revokeing any other former Will by me heretofore made in Witness whereof I have hereinto set my hand and seal this Twentieth ninth day of January anno Domini 1754.

At the foot of this foregoing Will and with the following probate on this 12th day of February anno Dom 1756 Benjamin Todd and John Woollen two of the subscribing witnesses to the above Will and made oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they saw the testator James Insley sign and seal the foregoing will and heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament told at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind and memory that they subscribed their names together with Aurthur Hartt the other subscribing witness to the said will in the presence of the said testator
