Will of John Hopkins Sr.
Somerset Co., Maryland
February, 05 1752


In the Name of God Amen, I John Hopkins Senr. of Somersett County in the province of Maryland being Old and Weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human Life, do think it proper to make this my last Will and Testament in manner following

First I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac Hopkins that Plantation or part of Cannons Shott Wheare I now live according to the Division I made between my son John Hopkins and my son Isaac Hopkins to him and the Lawfull Heirs of his Body for Ever, But further my Will and desire is that if my son John Hopkins or his heirs should ever lay aney claim or title to the above Plantation or part of Cannons Shott Wheare I now live or should ever mislist? my son Isaac his heirs in aney wise whatever, that then my son Isaac Hopkins or his heirs shall inheritt all that part of percell of Land whear my son John Hopkins now Lives.

2nd I give unto my two sons John Hopkins and Isaac Hopkins all the Land and Marsh I own at Cagoes Island to them and their heirs never to be divided.

3rd I give and bequeath unto my granson John Hopkins the son of my son Levi Hopkins all that parcell of Land which formerly belonged to Juda Cannon according to the Division that was formerly made and further my Will and desire is that if my said granson should Die without issue Lawfully begotten that then my son Isaac Hopkins should have the plantation in care but not to till the ground in aney wise till the child comes of age.

4th I give all the Hoggs that is called the Woods Hogs to my son Isaac Hopkins.

5th I give unto my son John Hopkins a Negro Child called Sarah to him for Ever.

6th I give unto my son Isaac Hopkins a Negro Woman called Sue and her Increas or Children for four year and then said Negro Woman to be Free.

7th I give unto my granson the son of Levi Hopkins five pounds itt being for his full part of my parsonall Estate.

8th I give unto my grandaughter Perthena Nicholson one Shilling Starlin for her full part of my Estate.

9th I give unto my grandaughter Mary Larrimore one Shilling Starlin for her full part of my Estate.

10th I give unto my grandaughter Mary Cooper one Shilling Starling for her full part of my Estate.

11th I give unto my grandaughter Eunice Cooper one Shillin Starling for her full part of my Estate.

12th I give unto my two grandaughters Sarah Ellingsworth and Ann Ellingsworth one shilling Startling a peace for their full part of my Estate.

13th I give unto my granson Thos. Cooper one Shilling Starling for his full part of my Estate.

14th I give unto my Daughter Mary Roberts one Shilling Starling for her full part of my Estate.

Lastly after my just debts be paid and my legacies taken out, my will is that the remainder of my Estate to be Equally divided between my son John Hopkins & Isaac Hopkins & my granson John Samuells, and likewise leave my two sons John & Isaac joint Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. Disannulling and making void all other Wills and Testaments heretofore by me made In Testimoney whereof I hereunto sett my hand and fix my seal this 5th Day of Febrey Anno Dom 1752.

July 17th 1752 Came George Dashiell, Henry Dashiell and Jesse Dashiell and made oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they saw the Testator John Hopkins sign and seal and heard him publish pronounce and declair this Instrument of Writeing as his last Will and Testament and that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that they the said George Dashiell, Henry Dashiell & Jesse Dashiell subscribed as Evidences to said Will in the presence and at the request of the Testator.
